My 7th book, The Agentic Architect: AI and the Resurgence of Practice has been published

Just a quick post today to let you know that I’m excited to share that my 7th book, The Agentic Architect: AI and the Resurgence of Practice has been published and is now available.

A follow-up to my 2019 book, Superusers, both published with Routledge, The Agentic Architect explores what it means to thrive and continue to have a positive impact as a design professional now with AI in the world.

In my new book, I call agency our most important challenge because we are currently experiencing a crisis of agency, where we are challenged in our ability to perform effectively and act independently due to external and internal forces resulting in an erosion of control and a reduced capacity to contribute to decision making and ability to act on these decisions.

In the book you’ll hear from current and future architects working in the trenches in the US and abroad wrestling daily with AI and agency, assuring readers are exposed to a variety of viewpoints, some supporting what they currently think and others that will challenge your thinking.

The book addresses:

· the liabilities of letting AI summarize everything for us;
· a detailed description of a day in the life of an agentic architect;
· an audit for identifying, acquiring and growing agency;
· a plan for how to develop, build and protect your agency;

The book’s message in one sentence:

Give yourself agency now especially with the rise of AI; learn to recognize it in yourself and others; recognize situations where you can attain it, build it and act on it; use it for yourself, with and for others.

It is likely you have agency but those you manage and lead, hire and mentor, often don’t. This book contains an assessment to determine whether they do and how you can help them build it.
